Privacy Policy
Effective Date: October 20, 2026
This privacy policy applies to the Skyward app («Небо сегодня» in Russian; hereby referred to as "Application") for iPhone, created by Roman Bogomolov (hereby referred to as "Service Provider"). The Application is free to download and offers optional paid features (Skyward Pro).
The short version
- There is no account. The Application never asks for your name, email or phone number.
- The sky — positions, rise and set times, meteor rates, directions — is calculated on your iPhone.
- Your location is used on the device and is never sent to the Service Provider.
- The Application contains no ads and does not track you across other apps or websites.
- Anonymous usage statistics (Firebase Analytics) help the Service Provider see which features are used.
Location
If you allow it, the Application uses your device's location to calculate the sky for the place where you are: when objects rise and set, where to look and how high they climb. The calculation happens on your iPhone. Your coordinates are not stored on any server of the Service Provider and are not sent to the analytics or purchase services.
Two Apple services receive your location to do their job:
- Apple Maps (MapKit) — to turn your coordinates into the name of your town, and to search for a city when you choose one by hand (the text you type is sent to Apple).
- Apple Weather (WeatherKit) — with Skyward Pro, to get the cloud forecast for your place.
Apple handles these requests under its own privacy policy. You can deny location access and pick a city by hand instead; the Application works the same way.
Camera, motion sensors, notifications and alarms
- Camera (Skyward Pro, optional) — shows the real sky behind the star map. The picture is only displayed on screen; it is never recorded, saved or sent anywhere.
- Motion sensors — tell the Application where your phone is pointing. Processed on the device only.
- Notifications and alarms — reminders and the peak alarm are scheduled locally on your iPhone (iOS notifications and AlarmKit). The Service Provider has no notification server.
Object photos and descriptions (Wikipedia)
When you open the card of a star, planet, galaxy or nebula, the Application requests its photo and a short description from Wikipedia and Wikimedia Commons. The request contains the name of the object and, like any internet request, your IP address. It does not contain your location or any identifier. Wikimedia handles these requests under the Wikimedia Foundation privacy policy.
Usage statistics (Firebase Analytics)
The Application uses Google Firebase Analytics to collect anonymous usage statistics, for example: that the sky map or an object card was opened, which object was picked in search, that a reminder was set or the paywall was shown. Firebase also records technical data such as the device model, iOS version, app version, a random app-instance identifier and an approximate country or region derived by Google from the IP address. This data is not linked to your name or contact details, does not include your location coordinates, and is not used for advertising. See the Firebase privacy information.
Purchases (RevenueCat)
Payments for Skyward Pro are processed by Apple; the Service Provider never sees your payment details. The Application uses RevenueCat to check whether Pro is active. RevenueCat receives the App Store purchase record and a random user identifier created by the Application. See the RevenueCat privacy policy.
Other requests
To show the Service Provider's other apps in Settings, the Application downloads a public list of apps and their App Store details. These requests contain no personal data.
Data on your device
Your settings, the chosen city, how dark your sky is, reminders and recently viewed objects are stored only on your iPhone. Deleting the Application removes them.
Third-Party Services
- Apple (Maps, Weather, App Store)
- Google Firebase Analytics
- RevenueCat
- Wikimedia Foundation (Wikipedia)
Disclosure of Information
The Service Provider does not sell any data. The limited information described above may be disclosed only as required by law, such as to comply with a subpoena or similar legal process.
Opt-Out Rights
You can turn off location, camera and notification access at any time in iPhone Settings. You can stop all collection of information by the Application by uninstalling it.
Children
The Application does not knowingly collect personally identifiable information from children under 13 years of age. If you are a parent or guardian and believe your child has provided personal information, please contact the Service Provider at apps.gexik@gmail.com.
Changes to This Privacy Policy
This Privacy Policy may be updated from time to time. Changes will be posted on this page with a new effective date.
